The Tony-nominated musical Sister Act will play its final performance August 26 at the Broadway Theatre. At the time of closing the show will have played 28 preview and 561 regular performances.
Based on the hit 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater and a book by Douglas Carter Beane and Cheri and Bill Steinkellner. The show opened on April 27, 2011 and earned five Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. Raven-Symone joined the cast as Deloris Van Cartier on March 27, replacing original star Patina Miller. Sister Act also stars Carolee Carmello, Fred Applegate, Sarah Bolt, John Treacy Egan, Demond Green, Chester Gregory, Kingsley Leggs, Marla Mindelle, Audrie Neenan and Caesar Samayoa.
Sister Act will launch a North America tour on October 2 at Tornto's Ed Mirvish Theatre.
